Project Brief
Penny Dreadful is a horror-drama series that takes classic literary characters like Dr. Frankenstein and Dorian Gray, and brings them into a new light by exploring their origin stories in a dark Victorian London. The trading card set for Season 1 accentuates this Victorian gothic theme with its base cards, chase cards, autograph cards, and authentic prop and wardrobe cards.
Concept
Chases 1, 2, and 3 feature portraits of the main characters accented with quotes, frames, and various illustrative elements. Chase 4 is a set of tarot cards based on the actual tarot cards used in the show. Like every trading card set produced by Cryptozoic Entertainment, this set features authentic autograph, prop, and wardrobe cards. The prop and wardrobe cards feature actual pieces of some of the props and costumes used in the show. Overall, the gothic themes of the show are echoed throughout the designs for the trading cards.
